Why Muscle Wall for Oil, Gas, and Energy?

Q: Why is Muscle Wall a better choice in oil and gas applications?

A: Current options for erosion and spill control in the energy industry include interventions such as silt fencing, hay bales, or sandbags. Each of these have definite drawbacks: hay bales and sandbags deteriorate over time and can become contaminated, resulting in additional costs to take care of the hazmat materials, and silt fences are semi-permanent structures that require constant care and attention to remain effective. Furthermore, companies must buy the proper product to suit each different scenario, and they can only be used once.

Muscle Wall solves this problem and improves upon existing options by being easier to deploy, maintain, and remove, as well as being clean and reusable. The Muscle Wall barricades can be utilized for numerous different applications, and you can modify and redeploy the barricades at a moment’s notice at your site. When a project is finished, just pick up your Muscle Wall barricades and put them back into use at your next project.

Q: How cost-effective is Muscle Wall compared to existing products?

A: While an individual sandbag may only cost $0.50 to purchase, the true cost also includes setup, cleanup, and decontamination/disposal, bringing the total to betweent $2.50 and $5.00 per bag. Additionally, sandbags can only be used once, and must be repurchased for every new scenario. Muscle Wall barricades on the other hand can replace 468 per four-foot unit, and require no decontamination or disposal, and can be used again and again. Even after only one use, Muscle Wall barricades cost a fraction of other implementations, and pay for themselves each time they are reused. (For more examples, see our Muscle Wall vs Sandbags page.)

Q: Will Muscle Wall effectively meet state and federal regulatory requirements?

A: Not all states require approval to use Muscle Wall barricades, but for those that do we are actively working with the respective governments to gain official approval. As a testament to the advantages of Muscle Wall, the product was recently approved for use in the state of Washington by the Department of Ecology, a state which has among the most stringent requirements in the United States. We are also currently working with the states of Texas and Pennsylvania to gain approval, and the reaction has been very positive in each state.

The barricades are also an accepted tool to help meet SWPP and SPCC regulations.

Q: Is Muscle Wall reusable and mobile?

A: Yes, a Muscle Wall barricade can be put in place, secured, and filled with water in just 3 minutes per unit. While constructed, the barricade’s unique design allows them to be adjusted easily, and take-down is just as quick. Because the barricades are made of industry-grade plastic, they simply need to be hosed down when finished and moved to their next assignment.
