Experts at Utah Water Research Laboratory at Utah State University conducted a scientific review of the Muscle Wall barricades in March of 2010 to determine performance characteristics and seepage rates of the barricades. Specifically, the research examined seepage rate, overflow performance, wave performance, impact performance, and sliding performance to evaluate how it would perform under real-world conditions.

The research and resulting report found that Muscle Wall barricades will successfully restrains a wall of water four feet deep, and also withstands wave activity, sudden impact, and overtopping.
